About
Meet Susan.
I work with couples, individuals and families who need help navigating their lives. I specialize in trauma and I am trained in EMDR; implementing it when working with past trauma and relationship injuries. EMDR is a unique therapy that utilizes your brain’s natural ability to heal and can be used to decrease negative thoughts, emotions, and somatic reactions to traumatic events. I am also certified in Prepare and Enrich, which is a system that helps premarital and married couples in their relationships.
As a relational therapist, I believe in working collaboratively with my clients. Together, we establish goals in order to move toward healing. I know, from personal experience, how difficult it can be to overcome seemingly impossible circumstances. I will be there to help you overcome yours.
Before becoming a therapist, I was an elementary school teacher. Working with kids, both individually and in groups, is one of my passions. While teaching, I enjoyed creating a safe place for my students to talk about their lives. Due to my work with kids, I have a better understanding of the importance of early childhood development and attachment issues. I implement this knowledge when working with adults to help them better understand the effects of childhood hurts on their current functioning.
Outside the counseling room, I spend as much time as I can with my four kids and my husband of 23 years. I love traveling and experiencing new people and places. I also find joy in serving at my church, playing tennis, swimming in the ocean and watching The Office.
